GIS (Geographic Information Systems)

The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs offers a certificate program in Urban Geographic Information Systems (GIS). A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computerized database management system used for the capture, storage, retrieval, analysis, and display of spatial data. The certificate program offers a sequence of courses to professionals who wish to learn GIS technology to complement their careers in government, planning, environment, public works, and other urban agencies. The program balances training in fundamental GIS concepts and theory, practical GIS-based problem-solving applications, and the development and completion of both independent and collaborative GIS projects.

The Cleveland State University Employee Fitness for Life Program is designed to promote health awareness and help CSU Employees learn and integrate healthy living practices into their everyday lives. Those who participate in the Fitness for Life program will earn VikeHealth Exercise Health Credits for completing and submitting their Fitness for Life exercise cards as well as 300 points for attending 4 or more Fitness for Life classes per VikeHealth cycle.

Social Work

The purpose of the School of Social Work Continuing Education Division is to provide opportunities for learning experience that will prepare professional social workers and counselors, including alumni, field instructors and professionals in the field to meet the multiple needs of individuals, organizations, and the communities they serve. The standards by which the Continuing Education Division adheres are those mandated by the Ohio Counselor and Social Worker and Marriage & Family Therapist Board (CSWMFB), the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The School of Social Work has been reaffirmed in it's Accreditation by CSWE, and therefore the Continuing Education Division shall comply within these guidelines as well as those set by NASW and the Ohio CSWMFB. Confucius Institute

The Confucius Institute offers Mandarin Chinese Level 1 (Beginners) and Mandarin Chinese Level 2 (Elementary). The Chinese language courses are designed for students who want to develop their ability to comprehend and communicate in the Chinese language. Some basic grammar is also addressed. The course uses short film segments shot at various local Cleveland Hungarian venues. It is designed for beginners, anyone with no experience with Hungarian whatsoever.

Conducted entirely online, the Cleveland State University Patient Advocacy Certificate Program supports the work of patient advocates and navigators across the country by providing a convenient, economical path to a fundamental knowledge base in the field. The Web-based platform also provides a forum for participants to share experiences and discuss issues critical to patient advocacy. Launched in 2004, this pioneering program was the first of its kind nationwide. To date, more than 230 individuals have completed the program.

RN Refresher

The CSU RN Refresher Course is designed for RNs who wish to update their knowledge and clinical understanding, whether it be to move to a new position or return to employment in nursing. The program, now in its 39th year, has been taken by thousands of nurses in Ohio and beyond. While the main focus of the course is adult medical-surgical nursing, sessions also cover a review of nursing process, clinical decision-making, basics of electronic health records, wound/ostomy care, and specific considerations for care of the elderly. Topics covered include care of patients with respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, endocrine, and neurologic problems. A special session will cover Ohio Law and Rules pertaining to nursing practice (Category A).

CSU's LSAT preparation course offers 28 hours of instruction with an emphasis on test content. The instructors will spend a large part of classroom time reviewing examples of test questions, exploring the rationale behind the correct answers, and explaining the underlying principles that apply to related questions. Sound test-taking techniques and strategies, as well as tricks, will be discussed. Class size is limited to 20 participants in order to ensure individual needs may be addressed. Test taking strategies will be discussed in the 3rd & 4th classes.

LeanOhio Boot Camp

LeanOhio Boot Camp is an intensive week-long training that gets people learning and using Lean methods and tools. The entire program is tailored to the public-sector workplace and public-sector processes. The training is filled with government examples and exercises. Included is an in-depth simulation involving a prototypical agency, so participants build their toolkits by way of a real-world situation.
